New Year, Same Old Story? - 'I'll quit smoking tomorrow, now's a bad time for me'.

It seems that every new year brings with it what i like to call the same old 'silly season'. People kid themselves that they are going to lose weight/stop smoking/join a gym/____? etc etc. Feel free to fill in the missing words according to whatever little lie you've told yourself. Now you see, i'm all for good intentions & far be it for me to knock anyone's noble efforts to improve themselves but if we're really honest we can see that 'good intentions' for the most part is all they are. Well thats just fine & dandy if all you wanna do is lose your beer gut or flatten your ass but what if it's more than that?
Twenty some years ago i lit my first experimental cigarette, & boy did i think i was cool! 'How could any girl resist me now?' i would oft muse to myself, trying evermore convoluted combinations of blowing smoke rings & watching myself in the mirror. I was the main man! Of course my natural progression from occasional 'social' smoker to full blown addict (whose breathing could be likened to that of an asthmatic pit pony) was imperceptable & within what seemed like the blink of an eye i couldn't dream of 'enjoying' a meal without it being finished with obligatory ciggie & coffee.
My full & frank admission is that from that fateful moment all those years ago until a few months ago, i was hooked. Well, i BELIEVED i was hooked, but of course i was no such thing. I had just been brainwashed by popular thinking that giving up tobacco was misery & deprivation, & of course by fear. Fear of not having that little crutch that i believed i couldn't do without, & i tried countless times to stop by willpower only to start again after a few days or weeks of that self imposed imaginary misery.
Now i'm not going to tell you i had a revelation or a message from God, & neither am i professional writer (as is probably very evident), but i did make an amazing breakthrough in my quest to free myself of that slavery to those little tubes...
