Smoke guide - Quit Smoking

Smoke guide - Quit Smoking
by Jean Helmet

Today, many people are trying to quit smoking more and more. Now, more than ever, people look for ways to quit smoking and seem to fail time and time again. Nowadays, it has become known that smoking doesn't do you, your self image, or your health any good. However, many years ago these health risks were unknown. Many years ago, smoking was considered to be normal and wasn't taking that serious when it came to harming ones health.

When we fast forward to the fast paced society of today, smoking has become a health hazard and we are now all made aware of this fact by the many health associations across the world. It is also said that by passive smoking, ones health could it be at risk. For example, lets say in a family home, the mother is a heavy smoker and there are children living in the household. The children will be breathing in this smoke daily and it won't be doing them any good when it comes to the effect of the smoke on their lungs.

There are many ways to stop smoking and many companies have recently piled up offering natural products that claim to be able to stop someone's habit when it comes to smoking. There are even alternatives to tobacco and nicotine smokes available, and these are known as herbal cigarettes.

While there are many options available, including various nicotine patches, and now, patches that are claimed as all natural that will get someone off the nicotine addiction, research and doctors advice will be your best bet when it comes to using products to help you quit smoking.

Ways To Quit Smoking

Ways To Quit Smoking
by S.A. Wilson

There are countless ways to quit smoking, and the majority of smokers have tried their hands at most of them. There is the old "cold turkey" standby that tends to send people into a painful period of withdrawal that eventually causes them to start smoking again. There are also the nicotine-based cessation programs like gum, patches, and lozenges. While many of these result in short-term success, they usually don't help you quit smoking for good.

Ultra-Herbal offers one of the safest and most effective ways to quit smoking on the market today: Nicocure. These all-natural patches are fully effective 97 percent of the time. Instead of releasing more of an addictive chemical into your system, Nicocure patches utilize a proprietary, all-natural formula to rid your body of its need for nicotine. Why try to break a nicotine habit by giving your body more of this dangerous chemical? Try Nicocure instead for a safe, all-natural alternative to those ineffective, nicotine-based gums and patches.

Results or Your Money Back - With Nicocure, you simply wear one patch a day for 30 days. In many cases, users see satisfying results within the first 10 days! Even when this occurs, however, it is a good idea to continue the process for the full 30 days. If for some reason you are not happy with your progress after 20 days, you can return the remainder of your patches and get a full refund on your purchase (minus shipping and handling).

Nicocure patches give you the best opportunity to quit smoking fast and for good. They make quitting easy and comfortable, eliminating withdrawal symptoms. They are also equally effective for people who have just started smoking and those who have tried to quit for years. And because Nicocure is all-natural, you know that's completely safe. For the stop smoking aid that truly breaks the nicotine cycle, try Nicocure today, completely risk-free.

Things to think about before stopping smoking

Things to think about before stopping smoking
by Kirk Voelker

This is the first of several articles directed to smokers. In order to better understand the psychology of nicotine addiction, I need to have input from smokers, and get inside your head. I look forward to your input and replies on my stop smoking discussion boardIn my practice as a pulmonologist as well as in my Quit Doc Clinic, I have finally acknowledged that I can not MAKE anyone quit smoking. I can not scare anyone into quitting smoking. Half of lung cancer patients go back to smoking!!! The drive to stop smoking has to come from within. Statistics tell us that over 80% of smokers want to quit smoking. My "on the street" interviews suggest that it is significantly less than this. Why the difference? When someone fills out an anonymous survey they can be more open. In the interview process I get the "yeah, I know I should quit but..." When I get to the one on one level, I find out that there are only a few reasons. Most of the time the failure to think about quitting is driven by either fear or immaturity. It is further fueled by denial ("oh that will never happen to me"). The top fear is not of the health consequences (stroke, heart attack, cancer) but the FEAR OF FAILURE. Most of my patients that I treat are afraid of failing their smoking cessation attempt. The second most common fear is that of gaining weight. I hear the rationalization of "I'll probably gain so much weight that I will make myself more unhealthy than if I smoked!" Well, let's look at this. It is estimated that you would have to gain 150 pounds to have the cardiovascular effects of smoking. And still you would not have the cancer risks! The third most common fear is FEAR OF CHANGE. Yep, most of us do not want to change our lifestyle. I get the comment "I've done it this way for the last 30 years no need to change now!" My response is usually, "The way that you have been doing it has gotten you into the mess you are in. Look at your lifeless skin? What about your breathlessness? What about the silent plaque that is building up inside of your arteries or the slow dissolution of lung tissue with each puff of that poisonous crap! What about immaturity. Well you are full of it! There is the rebellious punk side of you that says "no one is going to make me do anything!" To this I say "Well Einstein, don't you think that the big tobacco companies are responsible for getting you hooked in the first place? Don't you think that addiction is controlling your life? Can you go over to a friend's house and have a wonderful dinner and conversation without crawling out of your skin for your nicotine fix? This addiction has total control over you and can make you grovel at its whim." In my Quit Doc Clinic, I usually do not treat patients younger than 30. The reason is that they generally lack the maturity to stay quit. They are invincible and have not suffered from health problems or faced their own mortality. I often tell my patients whom are children of the 60's,70's or 80's that the mind set that they need to quit smoking is the same as they had when they quit all that other childhood stuff. They must be able to say "I'm done" and walk away. If they are still doing the late nights, alcohol, drugs etc. chances are that they have not matured to the point of being a successful nonsmoker. I turn them away and tell them to come back when they grow up."Denial? I don't have denial!" This denial accounts for why many people go without even trying to quit. "It will never happen to me." Or "you gotta die of something?" Smokers know they are playing Russian roulette. They believe there is one bullet and one thousand empty chambers. In reality, there is one bullet and only one empty chamber. Yes, that is right! Out of every two smokers, one will die prematurely of a smoking related death. The good news is that for every 2 people that we can get to stop smoking, we will save one life!! So what is the point of this article? Well you have to start somewhere. Before you decide to attempt quitting, you must look at your own reasons for not quitting thus far. You surely don't enjoy making the tobacco companies rich by giving them $1000/year for each pack per day that you smoke. You really don't enjoy the odor that reeks off of your body or breath (oh yeah, I forgot, you can't smell it until you quit). You may think it is your right to kill yourself by whatever means that you choose but what about the cancers, heart attacks and other illnesses that you are causing in those around you? That brings me to my next article on second hand smoke.Kirk G. Voelker MD FCCP - Quit Doc Smoking Treatment Network

Basics in Bronchitis detection, conventional treatment

Basics in Bronchitis detection, conventional treatment
by Groshan Fabiola

In acute bronchitis the sounds along your upper respiratory ways change so the doctor will examine you with the stethoscope and will detect easily the disease. If you have chronic bronchitis your doctor is supposed to make some specific determinations such as: X-ray of your chest and pulmonary function tests.

Treatments

Conventional treatment means adopting simple measures such as: stop smoking, avoid irritants and allergens, drinking fluids and getting lot of rest, a inhaled bronchodilator and/or cough syrup. There are many alternative methods that help in relieving the discomfort but do not treat the infection. In severe chronic bronchitis steroids reduce inflammation they may be given oral or inhaled and oxygen may be necessary.

Conventional medicine Antibiotics are not necessary in healthy people. Because coughing is a way of getting rid of secretions in our bronchis we shouldn't suppress cough and we should't take anything that has as effect the suppressing of cough. Only if your cough is dry and painfull and gives you high discomfort and insomnia your doctor will prescribe you cough suppressant. It is enough if you drink plenty of fluids and take acetaminophen.

In chronic bronchitis the lungs are more vulnerable, so you should have an yearly vaccination against flu, pneumonia. It is not complicated and you may not be required a second or booster shot. Take your medications only as suggested by your doctor. An expectorant may be usefull if your cough is dry. If you observe any change in the color, volume and thickness of the phlegm it means you have an infection.

Infections with bacterias are treated with broad spectrum antibiotics for 10 days. You should stop smoking and have steroids prescribed against the inflammation. In COPD and chronic bronchitis you may need an bronchodilator anticholinergic. In severe cases of chronic bronchitis and COPD oxygen therapy is usefull. It can be administered continous or only when needed. Try not to expose the oxygen tank to flammable materials or sources of direct heat such as: radiators or hair dryers. Your doctor will urge you to stop smocking, because it may reduce the symptoms and increase life expectancy.

Home remedies in acute and chronic bronchitis

In acute bronchitis You should stay at home, keep warm and drink lots of fluids, do not make physical efforts, inhale steam and use a vaporizer. In this phase the symptoms such as: wheezing, shortness of breath and fever are reduced if followed the indications.

In chronic bronchitis In chronic bronchitis the most important is to quit smoking. It would be an important measure not to be exposed to allergens or irritants, avoid contact with people with colds. It is helpful to dress warmly, to use a vaporizer or inhale steam over a sink full of hot water.

How to Stop Snoring - Stop the drinking & smoking!

How to Stop Snoring - Stop the drinking & smoking!
by Karin Manning

If one is healthy, one is generally fit. Diseases and other health issues would not pose problems to a person who is generally healthy. If you look at the mirror, and you see yourself to be quite fit, and yet you snore. What could the problem be?

Look at some other aspects in your life. Do you drink alcohol, or do you smoke? Perhaps these habits contribute to your snoring. What do you think? Let us discuss one by one to have some idea on how to stop snoring.

Drinking and Snoring Drinking alcoholic beverages tend to relax the throat muscles and the tongue during sleep. This would somewhat restrict the airways with the throat muscles tending to collapse inside making it difficult for breathing during sleep. If one should drink alcoholic beverages, drink in moderation, and preferably not before sleep. So with the question on how to stop snoring, stop drinking.

Smoking and Snoring Smoking has been medically declared unsafe to one's health. It destroys the tissues of your lungs and could even give you cancer. These cigarettes have harmful chemicals that cause the tissues on the throat to become agitated and irritated. The natural lining of your throat will be affected which will contribute to the obstruction of the airway - and thus your ever-loud sounding snores at night. So want to stop snoring, stop smoking.

Drive these bad habits away, and you'll have an answer on how to stop snoring. These can be considered vices if not done in moderation. While it won't be that bad at times to have a shot of alcohol, or perhaps smoke a stick every once in a while, it will really pose problems to one's health if you do these excessively. For sure, you will have problems sleeping at night, with your snoring in the way to a restful sleep.

When one is healthy, you will have fewer problems with snoring. A healthy life without drinking and smoking will give your immune system a boost to fight other diseases as colds, which also clog up the nasal airways and contribute to your snoring sound. A healthy life makes you more adept in dealing with stress, which goes back to contributing to your overall health. Being healthy is your best answer on how to stop snoring.

And while it may not be that bad if you practice moderation, but if you can do without these, then by all means live without these bad habits. You will find yourself better, and with more appreciation of healthy living. So on how to stop snoring, stop all the drinking and the smoking. The decision is all up to you, and whatever decision you may choose, you'll know if you made the right one because you will sleep well at night.

What Can You Do To Stop Smoking?

What Can You Do To Stop Smoking?
by Viz

Once glamorized on television shows, in magazine ads and other places, cigarette smoking can be one bad habit to quit. In fact it's one habit that people often start at a very early age, from childhood on. And it's one habit that has a high death rate resulting mainly from cancer associated with smoking.

People try to stop smoking cold turkey, or turn to religion, patches, nicotine gum, hypnosis and more. With so many choices available for help to quit smoking, here are some tips to add to them in order to conquer bad cigarette smoking habits once and for all and breathe fresher, healthier air.

Change Mindset

Start thinking clearer, and your mind will lead your body to a clearer, healthier state. You can begin by heading to your local library and checking out books, videos, cassettes, DVDs and other resources to help you stop smoking. Other good topics are on self-improvement, healthy diets, and motivational and inspirational themes. See if there are any support groups in your area on any of these subjects and search online for forums to find friends to work through any issues with and have fun with to get your mind off smoking and onto better subjects.

Also line up some support people on your home front, off line. You don't need friends who still smoke that will say things like, "Well, a half a pack a day isn't bad, don't worry about it." You need encouraging, healthy friends to see you through the good times and bad times like you'll see them through in exchange. So get a list going of people you can reach out to instead of reaching for a smoke: healthy neighbors, family, friends, etc.

Develop Healthier Habits

A great way to break an old habit is to start a new one. So here are some you could replace smoking with; like instead of lighting up:

1. Put your cigarette money aside in a jar and save it for a special celebration trip somewhere fun.

2. Instead of picking up a cigarette, pick up a book, magazine, newspaper or newsletter and catch up on your reading.

3. Instead of smoking, do some journaling, logging your pain, agony, hope, improved health, etc. Have fun and use magic markers and stickers in it and don't worry about your spelling!

4. Instead of smoking, go to a gym and work out or work out at home or outside.

5. Instead of smoking, do something nice for someone else- and don't tell them!

OK, time to get moving. Go get 'em!
