Conquering The Smoking Habit

Conquering The Smoking Habit
by Carol Bond

Conquering The Smoking Habit Most smokers sincerely want to quit. They know cigarettes threaten their health, set a bad example for their children, annoy their acquaintances and cost an inordinate amount of money. Nobody can force a smoker to quit. It's something each person has to decide for himself, and will require a personal commitment by the smoker. What kind of smoker are you? What do you get out of smoking? What does it do for you? It is important to identify what you use smoking for and what kind of satisfaction you feel that you are getting from smoking. Many smokers use the cigarette as a kind of crutch in moments of stress or discomfort, and on occasion it may work; the cigarette is sometimes used as a tranquilizer. But the heavy smoker, the person who tries to handle severe personal problems by smoking heavily all day long, is apt to discover that cigarettes do not help him deal with his problems effectively. When it comes to quitting, this kind of smoker may find it easy to stop when everything is going well, but may be tempted to start again in a time of crisis. Physical exertion, eating, drinking, or social activity in moderation may serve as useful substitutes for cigarettes, even in times of tension. The choice of a substitute depends on what will achieve the same effects without having any appreciable risk. Once a smoker understands his own smoking behavior, he will be able to cope more successfully and select the best quitting approaches for himself and the type of life-style he leads. Because smoking is a form of addiction, 80 percent of smoker who quit usually experience some withdrawal symptoms. These may include headache, light-headedness, nausea, diarrhea, and chest pains. Psychological symptoms, such as anxiety, short-term depression, and inability to concentrate, may also appear. The main psychological symptom is increased irritability. People become so irritable, in fact, that they say they feel "like killing somebody." Yet there is no evidence that quitting smoking leads to physical violence. Some people seem to lose all their energy and drive, wanting only to sleep. Others react in exactly the opposite way, becoming so over energized they can't find enough activity to burn off their excess energy. For instance, one woman said she cleaned out all her closets completely and was ready to go next door to start on her neighbor's. Both these extremes, however, eventually level off. The symptoms may be intense for two or three days, but within 10 to 14 days after quitting, most subside. The truth is that after people quit smoking, they have more energy, they generally will need less sleep, and feel better about themselves. Quitting smoking not only extends the ex-smoker's life, but adds new happiness and meaning to one's current life. Most smokers state that immediately after they quit smoking, they start noticing dramatic differences in their overall health and vitality. Quitting is beneficial at any age, no matter how long a person has been smoking. The mortality ratio of ex-smoker decreases after quitting. If the patient quits before a serious disease has developed, his body may eventually be able to restore itself almost completely.

Health After Smoking

Health After Smoking
by William Jones

If you are a smoker, you already know that your health is at stake. By understanding the positive changes to your body after you've stopped smoking, you will be more likely to stick to your new smoke-free regime.

First, it's important to understand how smoking affects your vital capacity. Ask your doctor to perform a Vital Capacity test to measure the amount of air you take in with each breath. You will be asked to take a deep breath and blow into a device that tells your doctor the volume of air dispelled. Air taken in by healthy lungs holds about 19% oxygen. Smokers take in even less vital oxygen, because the lungs are not able to expand as much. The more you smoke, the lower your vital capacity.

Cigarette smokers also double their risk of heart attack, and sudden cardiac death. Additionally more young smokers are killed by stroke than their young non-smoking peers.

That's the bad news. The good news is that the body has incredible healing powers, and can start to correct the negative effects of smoking within minutes of extinguishing your last butt.

According to the American Cancer Society, these are the estimated healing times following your last cigarette:

* After 15 minutes: Blood pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature of your hands and feet return to normal.

* After 8 hours: your oxygen level increases to normal, and the level of deadly carbon monoxide in your system drops

* After 24 hours: Heart attack risk decreases. You are less likely to have a heart attack in as little as one day after you've stopped smoking.

* Within 48 hours: Your senses of smell and taste increase, as damaged nerve endings begin to regrow. Many smokers have no idea that their habit has actually stopped the growth of nerve endings.

* 2 weeks to 3 months: Your lung function has increased by up to 30 percent. Your circulation has improved, and you find it easier to walk. Overall, you're feeling terrific!

* 1 to 9 months: You've noticed a decrease of coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, and shortness of breath. The cilia in your lungs are now able to better handle mucus, clean your lungs and reduce infection.

* After 1 year: You are half as likely than a smoker to have a heart attack.

* After 5 years: You have nearly half the chance of dying from lung cancer as you did when you were a pack-a-day smoker. Risk of esophagus, mouth and throat cancers are half that of smokers. Some communities have banned tobacco companies from giving chewing tobacco away at rodeos where it can easily get into the hands of children. It's hard to imagine anything worse than mouth cancer.

* After 10 years: The lung cancer death rate is equal to that of nonsmokers. Pre-cancerous cells have been replaced, and the risk of death from cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas has decreased.

* After 15 years: Your risk of suffering coronary heart disease is the same as that of a nonsmoker.

Your hard work will most definitely pay off in renewed good health, and with healthy financial benefits as well.

Assume that you spend $50.00 per month on cigarettes. If you were to invest that same $600.00 each year into a stock mutual fund, annuity, or other financial instrument that generates 5% annually, you will have saved more than $20,000 after 20 years. Of course, $50.00 per month is a very nominal amount. Most smokers will spend a great deal more while they smoke, and save a great deal more when they stop.

You know that you need to stop smoking. Both your body and your bankbook will be much healthier for it. There are many resources available to help you become a non-smoker, but be wary of television commercials that promote sites to help you quit. As a matter of fact, the first step to your healthier lifestyle should be to turn off the TV altogether. Instead, ask your doctor about the stop smoking methods and support groups that are available to help you quit.

Why You Are Smoking More

Why You Are Smoking More
by Windham Mattingly

Why You Smoke More. Yes that is right you can answer the question of why you smoke more. You have been smoking for a while now and you do notice that there are times when you feel that you can cut back and there are times when you can't smoke enough. Besides the obvious reasons people smoke more like being in an uncomfortable situation, after you eat, after other satisfying events. You just seem to go through periods when the old cancer stick won't quit calling your name. This article will address that and give you so things that you can do that might help curb that craving. At least a little. First though we need to talk about the two reasons that people keep smoking after that first coughing attack experience.

First nicotine is addictive but that isn't why you took the second cigarette. You weren't addicted just yet. You felt something, a calming since of satisfaction. More than likely what you felt was an increase in you dopamine levels. Dopamine is naturally occurring in you body but nicotine helps increase it. What is Dopamine? Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for you experiencing pleasure and rewards. It is why you feel so good about yourself after that long run. It is why you go to the refrigerator sometimes just to look and end up eating some high carb snack that you weren't even hungry for before you got it. Carbohydrates increase dopamine levels too. It's why you never seem to get that same feeling the first cigarette gave you unless you hadn't had one in a while. It is why you are smoking more. Your brain needs to cigarette because when your dopamine levels increase you feel satisfied. Is this starting to make sense?

The second kind of smokers are people having perfectly fine dopamine levels and they still smoke. For those people they are simply addicted to the nicotine and can quick with just about any stop smoking routine. But what I described earlier fits about half of the smokers. Those smokers quit but not for a long time or when they try they gain a lot of weight. They are having to replace there increased dopamine with carbohydrates instead of nicotine. So is there a balance. Maybe so, there are a lot of smart carb diets out there. There involve getting your carbohydrates from more complex carbohydrates with high fiber. They can be a better alternative. Also, you can increase your activity levels and increase your dopamine. There are medications that can increase your dopamine levels and you can ask you doctor about them. For the most part that describes the two types of smokers and maybe I haven't pin pointed your just yet. You checked into this site because you have been taking an antidepressant for a few months and now you are smoking more. If so there is more than likely a very logical explanation for this.

Some antidepressants, actually the majority of antidepressants are SSRIs. That stands for Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. You don't have to know what it means other than this. Serotonin is another neurotransmitter that occurs naturally but sometimes is too low for some people. That statement has a lot of depth because it means people sometimes have low serotonin and also means that some people have low serotonin all the time. When your serotonin is too low you have more anxiety and depressed mood. When you have it often or for a long time then you need to see a physician because you probably have anxiety and or depression all the time. The drugs to increase serotonin do a good job but one of the side effects that they can have is that the increase in the serotonin can decrease your dopamine. Now the light just came on for you. You are smoking more because the serotonin decreased your dopamine level and you got an increase with the increase in nicotine. So what can you do? Go to your doctor and tell him. It isn't something he would have just noticed. He can prescribe a different medication that doesn't have serotonin properties. DON'T QUIT TAKING YOU MEDICINE WITHOUT TALKING TO A PHYSICIAN! Why stop smoking quickly?

Why stop smoking quickly?
by Andy Morey

Smoking has become a very "dirty" word in the USA lately. Almost everywhere you look, you see lawsuits and cities banning smoking. They are banning smoking everywhere, even trying to ban smoking in personal vehicles. One hospital is terminating employees for smoking!! Why? Well probably due to the health problems associated with smoking and the cost of insuring smokers. This should give you some reasons why. Smoking kills almost 400,000 people yearly. Almost 25% of house fires are caused by smoking, which leads to almost 1000 deaths and 3000 injuries let alone the damage to the house. As you quit you regain lung function. You also decrease your chances of cancer and heart disease. Think of the money you will save(multiply the cost of a pack and how many a day by the number of days in a year). the cost could amaze you. One pack per day at 3.00 per pack(prices vary, this is for demonstration only:))This is $1095 per year. Some tips can help. The first and most important is that you recognize a problem. That is the classic twelve steppers beginning. Realize that it can take multiple attempts and don't get discouraged. Also know that it is OK to get help. 95% of those who quit on their own reststart. Get help. Try nicotine substitutes, gum, or meds such as Zyban. Read books on how to stop. Change up your routine. this will help get your mind off smoking. Some people swear by keeping your hands and mind busy. If you start a program don't ask if it works, it does for some, but you must have the focus and willingness to put the program into action. If you don quit, you will still get urges. Fight the temptation. Urges decrease over time and last only a few minutes anyway. Dont forget that most people quit several times before stopping for good. If you are the spouse or significant other of a smoker DON'T NAG!! This will only hurt in his/her attempts to quit. Be supportive. For more tips Click Here!

5 Great Tips for those asking themselves, "How do I Quit Smoking?"

5 Great Tips for those asking themselves, "How do I Quit Smoking?"
by Hamish Jones

Everyday throughout the world, smokers wake up and say "How do I quit smoking?" The most common way to quit smoking is through nicotine replacement therapy (eg. Patches, gum, inhalers etc.) However, the problem with this is you are still putting one of the addictive ingredients of cigarettes into your bloodstream- nicotine. It helps beat the cravings whilst you have the nicotine replacement, but if you run out of patches or what ever, it is much easier to buy a packet of cigarettes to get your fix than it is to get your nicotine replacement treatment. As such, below you will find tips if you are asking yourself, "how do I quit smoking naturally?"
1. Drink Water.
Drinking water is a healthy way to quit smoking. Many people are not physically addicted to cigarettes but psychologically addicted to the hand to mouth action of smoking cigarettes. You have two options here; you can carry around a bottle of water and sip from it when you feel like a cigarette, or, when you feel a craving, walk to another room and drink a glass of water slowly. Cravings are usually gone within 5 minutes. 2. Exercise
The good feelings you get from improving your fitness will encourage you to stay away from cigarettes and the shortness of breath associated with them.
3. Carry Gum or chewy lollies
As with number 1, many smokers are more psychologically than physically addicted to cigarettes. If you carry normal gum or lollies, you can put one of these in your mouth when you get a craving. If you are asking yourself, "how do I quit smoking?" this may be the option for you if you wish to avoid nicotine replacement options.
4. Stop drinking alcohol and caffeine
Many people associate smoking with drinking alcohol or coffee. So if you are serious about quitting smoking, you should cut back on alcohol and caffeine and putting yourself in places where you are used to smoking.
5. Hypnotism and Neuro-linguistic Programming
This is an option for those that are keen to quit smoking naturally, but the above options have not worked. It involves working with your mind and manipulating your thinking to make you not want to smoke.
Everyday throughout the world, smokers wake up and say "How do I quit smoking?" The purpose of this article is to give you some tips to naturally quit smoking for good.

Do You Believe Smoking Is A Way To Stay Slim?

Do You Believe Smoking Is A Way To Stay Slim?
by Ng Peng Hock

Smoking can help one stays slim.
Are you sure?
It does not sound convincing at all but unfortunately it is a common belief
among teenage girls.
Besides the many healthy problems like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, stroke, and many others that are associated with overweight, the other important issue for teenage girls is their body image.
Research conducted in the United Kingdom and Canada showed that 1/3 of girls view weight gain as a reason not to give up cigarette.
A female smoker shared her thoughts: "If I don't smoke I tend to eat a lot, especially candy and chocolate, and things like that. The last time I tried cutting down on cigarettes I gained 2 or 3 kg in couple of weeks. To be honest, I don't really worry about the health risks associated with smoking. They seem so distant. But I can see the link with my weight directly."
Is there any proven link between smoking and weight control?
American researchers found that smokers are just as likely to put on weight as non-smokers. It tends to be those who are slightly overweight that smoke the most. Therefore, it is a wrong belief for young women to take up smoking hoping it will help them manage their weight. However, it is a tendency for people to gain weight when they quit smoking.
According to Dr Chris Steele, when giving up smoking, about 1/3 of people gain quite a lot of weight, 1/3 gain a small amount of weight, and the remaining 1/3 do not put on any weight at all. Dr Chris Steele is a British general practitioner who has run smokers' clinics for more than 30 years.
Smoking increases the risk of contracting diseases such as heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and stroke. If there is a choice between stopping smoking and putting on a couple of kilos, you should stop smoking first to halt the worse impact on your overall health. After you have stopped smoking, you can then deal with any extra weight that may have crept on.
Although some people do gain weight after they give up cigarette, smoking itself does not cause weight loss. Therefore, taking up smoking will not help you stay slim. The best and safest way to control weight is to follow the tried-and-tested method: exercise and adopt a healthy diet.
People have intention to quit smoking but do not know how to do it can visit Dr Steele's website for his 10 Point Quit Smoking Plan (http://www.thefamilygp.com/dr-chris-steel-10-point-quit-smoking-plan.htm) and his Fat Farewell Weight Loss Plan (http://www.thefamilygp.com/lose-weight.aspx) for quitters who are worried about gain weight.

Tips On Where To Seek Stop Smoking Support And Help?

Tips On Where To Seek Stop Smoking Support And Help?
by Javier Fuller

You have reached this stage to stop smoking and today you need the support and help from outside agencies. This shows the strength of nicotine addiction. How cruel its hold on you! But don't be afraid to take the required support as you have finally decided to quit smoking for ever. You can defeat nicotine, and you will!
Some of the suggested methods may look simple, but you need to follow them with commitment. Make a list of your reasons to quit smoking. Keep it in your pocket and as the urge sprouts in your mind, take out the list from your pocket, instead of the cigarette. Read the list slowly and carefully. Re read it. Resist the urge with all the strength at your command.
Be in touch with some QUIT SMOKING program. The encouragement that you will get by attending such program may surprise you. Consult your doctor for latest information on the subject of quitting smoking. The doctor's pep talk will have the desired effect on you. Take suggestions about nicotine replacement products. The care is needed to be taken in the area that these replacement products do not lead you to further addiction.
Support your will power to the hilt. Be obstinate to hate nicotine. See often, the video clippings showing the detrimental effects of cigarette smoking. I would even suggest you to visit the cancer ward in a hospital, and see for yourself the deep suffering of the patients who were addicted to tobacco in one form or the other. This will leave a profound effect on your mind.
Many have availed the support of hypnotherapy to get rid of smoking for ever. Do try it. You are through, if luck favors you. Even otherwise, don't get disheartened. You are in the nicotine-fighting mood, and do remain in that position.
Your family members have a positive role to play, at this crucial juncture of your life. They are your immediate support and help group. Take assistance from your trusted non-smoking friends, and do not hesitate to terminate friendship, though temporarily, with your smoker friends. If you suffer from some major disease on account of smoking, they are not going to foot your hospital bill.
By now, you have enough knowledge in theory about the ill effects of passive smoking. Your smoke coils do damage the health of your family members. It is not your democratic right to cause problems to your family members.
And finally, at the end of the day how much money you have saved by not smoking? Multiply it by 365. That is the amount that you are going to save for the year, which I am sure is in thousands of dollars!
If you don't stop smoking now, some one else will claim many more thousands of dollars, from you. You know who!

The Tobacco Conspiracy : Why You Have Not Been Able to Quit Smoking

The Tobacco Conspiracy : Why You Have Not Been Able to Quit Smoking
by Rick Saruna

Billions of dollars are at stake. Millions of deaths result. Top corporate executives sit around the boardroom and discuss ways to improve their market share. Their success depends on keeping you smoking and getting people that don't smoke to start. It' s all about the billions.
The tobacco companies have very deep pockets. They have spent billions of dollars in advertising over the years and they know how to keep their customers. They want you to die a smoker. Their bottom line depends on it. And you will if you do not quit.
What if I told you that stopping smoking was easy? That smoking is a body and mind addiction. Yes, body AND mind!
I don't know anyone that actually picks up a cigarette and goes, " mmmmm, tastes great!" Do you? Of course not. Your body rejects it. It coughs, hacks, spits, and does everything that it can to tell you this is bad stuff. You started because your mind was thinking how cool you will be, how much older it will make you look and your body is obeyed. Now you are addicted.
Everyone starts this way. EVERYONE. You had to use your mind to convince your body or you would reject it.
I find it fascinating that almost all methods of quitting smoking do not take into consideration the mind. There are pills and patches and inhalers and gums. All these programs have a very low success rate.
Doesn't it make sense to use the very part of you that started the whole thing - Your mind?? Or course it does.
Everyone starts to smoke for some sort of motivating reason. If I gave you a piece of food that was stinky, burned your throat and made you cough and gag, how many pieces would you eat? I don't think very many. See, it would be unnatural for you to want more.
Smoking is not natural or everyone would be smoking. You cannot grow a cigarette tree in your backyard or a cigarette plant in your garden. They are not natural. Tobacco may be natural but cigarettes are far more than tobacco with an estimated 4000 ingredients added! The list is highly guarded and protected by law as a trade secret. Imagine that. It's the public's health and it's a trade secret. Something isn't right.
But one thing that is right is the decision to quit smoking. Quitting smoking is the one thing that will immediately improve your life and the life of those around you. When a person realizes that quitting IS a Body and Mind process it makes the process much easier.

Smoking Cold Turkey - Should You Try It?

Smoking Cold Turkey - Should You Try It?
by sacha tarkovsky

The most popular way to stop smoking, is known as "cold turkey" It's the most popular method but is it the right method for you lets look at stop smoking cold turkey and see. Smoking "cold turkey" means to stop smoking instantly with no reduction i.e. just stop and cope with the cravings with no help.
How effective is it?
Quitting smoking "cold turkey" means to stop smoking without using any nicotine replacement therapy aids as nicotine provides the addictive nature of smoking it causes withdrawal symptoms.
Withdrawal of nicotine causes the following:
Irritability, fatigue, feelings of stress and nausea.
They are intense and will always be there in the first few weeks after giving up, although the first 3 - 4 days are the worst.
The symptoms and severity gradually reduce and eventually cease altogether and after about a month your body no longer needs nicotine fix.
If you are quitting smoking by "cold turkey" there are several ways to increase your chances of success
1. Drink lots of water to flush out your system at least liters a day and more if possible.
2. When cravings start - THINK of all the reasons why you are quitting cigarettes. Concentrate on why you don't want to smoke and all the health and financial benefits it will bring. Focus on these benefits for a few minutes and block everything else out your mind to motivate you not to smoke.
3. Get support if you need it.
If you can do "cold turkey" do it with someone else or get support and help from groups, either on the Internet or a meeting group.
4. Keep yourself busy and occupy your day and make sure you don't have time to think about smoking especially in the first 3 days.
Your chances of success depend very much on two major factors:
How much you want to quit and whether or not you believe you can do it.
If you think you can then of course you will.
If you think you cant you will not achieve your goal.
You may want to consider something else though.
People quit smoking "cold turkey" as they think nicotine is bad for you but it isn't, as we shall now see.
Fact:
You will double your chances of success if you give yourself a fix of nicotine outside of cigarettes.
Let's look at how to double your chances of success.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy
Nicotine does not cause death or disease, on the contrary its good for you.
It improves concentration, mood and attention and is actually part of the natural food chain and we consume trace elements everyday in foods such as tomatoes and potatoes to name just two.
If you take it in organic form you can beat cravings and get some potential health benefits.
NRT Products include:
Puffers, inhalers, gum and patches.
As the health benefits of nicotine are now well known companies are looking at producing nicotine supplements not just to help smokers, but help with a variety of conditions which need improvements in mood, attention and concentration.
They are looking at these to treat conditions such as: Depression, Altzeimer's and Parkinson's disease to name just 3.
A new smoking alternative
The first is already on the market. Originally aimed at smokers when they didn't want to smoke, or couldn't smoke It's simply organic nicotine in water.
It's very popular due to its convenience.
Simply take a few sips whenever you feel the need.
This product is now being taken not just by smokers but those who want to gain potential health benefits as well.
Finally
Try smoking "cold turkey" if you wish, but using NRT will double your chances of success and if you know the facts, you will see nicotine in pure organic form does no harm, so this is a great way for smokers with low willpower.

Makeup Tips on PH Balance

Makeup Tips on PH Balance
by Serjame Bayliss

PH is a medical term that describes the balance of your system and it refers to the condition of metabolic changes. Most skin problems are a derivative of diet and the lack of proteins. Now, for a stepping-stone to a beautiful you, let us look at our regime involved in prepping our skin. Once again, skin problems stem from unbalanced PH. Our skin has a happy PH balance and when your diet is unstable, as with the typical American junk food diet, our skin changes as a result.
An increase in sugar or a lack of vegetables changes the PH balance of your skin; if you over cleanse your face (by cleansing in the morning and again at nighttime) you will age your skin by reducing the natural moisture in the T-zone area. Sometimes, just a white, warm washcloth soaked with distilled water, followed by a cleanser, and is better than toner. The base ingredient of most toners is alcohol, which dries out your skin. At nighttime, before you go to bed, is the best time for toners, because they remove makeup, and environmental impurities, and dead skin cells.
Over-cleansing your face will age you. The best oil is that which your body produces. As a rule, those who have oily skin look younger, because oily skin is not prone to wrinkles like dry skin owing to abundance in natural oils. Each of you has a specific skin type and each of you needs a balanced moisture cream that suits your individual needs. Let us consider some things that cause changes to your skin that you perhaps overlook. Many women fast, thus draining the body of the needed vitamins that one gets from food. If you dehydrate your body, you change your sodium and potassium level, which changes your PH.
Many women think that it is a good idea to put oil on their skin; this is fine for your arms and legs, but never put oil on your face. This method is a myth. Why? Well, if you apply oil on your face, your sebaceous glands (oil producing glands) will stop producing the skin's own precious natural oils. Here's what happens: The brain sends a message to the glands that oil is present, thus cutting off your natural moistening and the result is an increase in aging because of dryness.
Your PH Level greatly affects your skin. PH imbalances (too much or too little acid) are your skin's worst enemies. PH imbalances are the result of stress and poor dietary and lifestyle habits. (Junk food; extreme diets; not enough fruit and vegetables; excess salt and sugar; alcohol; drugs (legal or otherwise); overuse of antacids or laxatives; smoking; lack of exercise; not drinking enough water; too much sun and wind; etc.)
Some women try to correct the effects of PH imbalances with an inexpensive moisturizer while others spend megabucks for a product that will do the same job. Remember, if your skin is dry, you need to moisturize and you do not need an expensive product to do this. Skin demands different products, so listen to your skin-if it is breaking out, or drying out, it is telling you it needs a change of product (you may also want to review your lifestyle habits to see if there is something you are eating or doing that may be affecting your skin). Should you use the same products year after year? Let us see-shampoo, after 90 days, builds a residue on the hair shaft. Deodorant, after 90 days, does not work as effectively.
As your body builds tolerance to your products, you must change products. Also, do not use the same product in the summer as in the winter months because your skin will have different needs when exposed to cold or hot weather. If, for whatever reason, your PH level changes, so will your need for products. Does this make sense? Common sense is your rule to follow. In addition, as you age, your skin will require different products, so let you skin tell you when to change. The Artemus Objective Method of Makeup© Bible Of Makeup

Stop Smoking By Hypnosis And Enjoy Life

Stop Smoking By Hypnosis And Enjoy Life
by Steve Gee

Stop smoking by hypnosis and enjoy life to the full
Hypnosis could be the most effective way to stop smoking there is. Studies have shown that it's a far more effective method than the common nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) where you wear patches, take injections or chew gum to wean you off of the drug. Hypnosis is also a cheaper, faster and more natural way to quit smoking. It is possible to stop smoking by hypnosis in as little as one hour.
You must want to stop smoking
The biggest single factor that determines whether you will successfully stop smoking appears to be your motivation. Simply put: if you don't want to stop smoking then it's unlikely that you will no matter how hard you try. It's not good enough to say that you will give up because of the health risk or whatever, you have to genuinely want to stop so that you can enjoy the benefits of not smoking such as a longer, healthier and more active life.
If you don't want to give up then hypnosis is unlikely to help you and neither is any other method. The first step to stopping smoking should be to find good reasons why you want to give up and believe that you will be better off by not smoking. Start believing that you want to taste things again and that you want to have more energy. You might also want to make more friends by not smelling like an ashtray all of the time.
When you want to stop smoking you will find it easy
Many people seem to find a lot of excuses why they can't give up smoking. They might say that they are addicted or they need it to relax. Ok nicotine is addictive but it's not like real hard drugs are addictive. Going cold turkey by stopping smoking might give you a few unpleasant symptoms for 2 or 3 days but you won't start convulsing and it's unlikely that you will need medical intervention.
Going without a cigarette for an hour or two will start the withdrawal symptoms and smoking will replace the nicotine that your body craves and bring you back to normal. It's this normality that smokers seem to mistake for relaxing. Why not stop smoking for good and be normal all the time?
Make the decision now that you don't want to be a smoker any longer and when you get to the point where you truly want to start living life to the full without smoking, you will be ready to stop. You'll then find it easier to quit smoking than you could ever have imagined.

Acomplia can help you quit smoking

Acomplia can help you quit smoking.
by Ashlynn

How does Acomplia help people quit smoking?
Acomplia Rimonabant works by selectively blocking the CB1 receptors in the endocannabinoid system - the "pleasure" center - balancing the overstimulated systems of both smokers and obese people. By blocking the signals, the cigarette smoker does not have the same urge to smoke. The endocannabinoid system is a natural physiological system believed to play a role in maintaining energy balance through the regulation of food intake and energy expenditure of our body.
Research has shown that heavy smokers were able to completely relinquish their habit after being on a regular supplement of Acomplia. Smokers usually do not beat the habit because they fear that they could easily gain weight once they have stopped smoking which can be very discouraging. Seeing that Acomplia also blocks certain nerve receptors in the brain and fat cells that are responsible for telling the body to overeat or smoke, this kills the urge to overeat and to smoke nicotine. Therefore accomplishing two tasks at once.
What are some smoking related diseases?
Smoking has negative effects on nearly every organ of the body and reduces your overall health. Smoking tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death and has negative health impacts on people no matter what the age: unborn babies, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.
Serious health problems that can result from tobacco smoking:Lung cancer
Lung cancer is the most prominent cause of death due to cancer. Smoking tobacco is the single most important preventable cause of lung cancer. Smoking causes genetic changes in the cells of the lung that lead to the development of lung cancer.
Other cancers
Research shows that smoking tobacco can lead to respiratory and upper digestive tract cancers, particularly cancer of the mouth, throat, voice box and esophagus. Research also shows that smoking tobacco is a contributing cause of leukemia and cancers of the bladder, stomach, kidney and pancreas. Female smokers are at greater risk for developing cervical cancer.
Respiratory diseases
The respiratory diseases associated with smoking are often grouped together and referred to as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) that includes emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthmatic bronchitis. Cigarette smoking is also connected to an increased risk of respiratory symptoms, including coughing, phlegm, wheezing and difficult or laboured breathing (dyspnea).
Cardiovascular diseases
Cardiovascular diseases are diseases and injuries of the heart, the blood vessels of the heart, and of the system of blood vessels (veins and arteries) throughout the body and brain. Cardiovascular diseases caused by smoking include heart attacks and angina (coronary heart diseases), blockages in the legs (peripheral vascular disease), and strokes (cerebrovascular diseases).
What are some tips for quitting smoking?
Drink a lot of liquids, especially water. Try herbal teas or fruit juices. Limit coffee, soft drinks, and alcohol - they can increase your urge to smoke.
Avoid sugar and fatty food. Try low-calorie foods for snacking - carrots and other vegetables, sugarless gum, air-popped popcorn, or low-fat cottage cheese. Don't skip meals.
Exercise regularly and moderately. Regular exercise helps. Joining an exercise group provides a healthy activity and a new routine.
Get more sleep. Try to go to sleep earlier and get more rest.
Take deep breaths. Distract yourself. When cravings hit, do something else immediately, such as talking to someone, getting busy with a task, or taking deep breaths.
Change your habits. Use a different route to work, eat breakfast in a different place, or get up from the table right away after eating.
Do something to reduce your stress. Take a hot shower, read a book, or exercise.
Use proven stop smoking products. Using proven cessation treatments, such as Acomplia, can double your chance of success.

Are You Thinking Of Using A Stop Smoking Injection?

Are You Thinking Of Using A Stop Smoking Injection?
by Javier Fuller

You started smoking on a beautiful note. At that time you never imagined in your wildest dreams that to stop smoking would be such a deadly effort. You have tried several methods, rather many quit smoking methods have used you to make fun of you.
You are where you are and now the suggested method is stop smoking through injection.
Will this alternative really help you, so that you can live the rest of your life smoke-free? Half of your life is already wasted in searching and experimenting with the various methods to stop smoking.
Researches claim that this stop smoking injection makes you forget about smoking once and for all. It has a success rate of about 80%. Hope you are not among the remaining 20%. I am aware you have tried many other therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medications and nicotine replacement therapy, all in vain.
Nicotine and your brain are comrades in arms. The brain can never forget the obliging nicotine sensation and demands more and more of it. Therefore, you smoke more and more. Something has to be done to break this link. The stop smoking injection contains substances that confront the nicotine receptors in your brain. When the brain fails to establish contacts with nicotine, and refuses to recognize it, your desire for the nicotine-containing cigarette is decreased. Well, you no more need it at all!
Normally, one injection does the job. The second one would be necessary, in some cases. The treatment is given to you in ideal conditions in a clinic, under the supervision of your own doctor. He will make a careful note about your stop-smoking condition.
Why, then in some cases, you don't get satisfactory results in the first instance? It is because many of the smokers do have other problems, apart from the nicotine addiction. Your doctor will therefore examine your total health, after you are injected with the first shot.
The injection therapy is very affordable. High from the normal standards, but low from the actual standards! Also calculate what an astronomical amount you will spend on your nicotine products- the cigarette packets! Another favorable point is that such treatment related expenses, including the injection charges are covered by health insurance policy.
So far, this stop smoking injection therapy does not lead to side effects, it is reported. This probably is the reason for its growing popularity. Second aspect of the popularity is the quickness with which you can have this treatment.
You are in a hurry. You started smoking in a hurry, and if now you have come across a method to give up smoking in a hurry, why not avail it?

Using Laser Beams To Stop Smoking

Using Laser Beams To Stop Smoking
by Javier Fuller

To start smoking, you require the help of only one thing- a lighter or a matchstick. You can do it even without that. A fellow smoker with the burning stub will come to your help. Only when the issue of stop smoking gets priority over all others, for obvious reasons, there are several methods to assist you--or to confuse you.
Today's so called successful methods become tomorrow's failure method. Using laser treatment to quit smoking is considered to be one of the most effective smoking cessation methods. This method was introduced to the public only in the recent years and is considered to be a modern and innovative method for quitting smoking. It is trusted method because laser method is used in many other medical branches for various other types of treatment with success. But laser treatment is costly.
The principle involved in laser treatment is simple and scientific. Certain nerve centers can encourage changes in the body. Acupuncture, reflexology, use the very same principle in treating the patients. If pressure is applied on those points, you get the desired results.
Stop smoking laser treatment means the same. Those relevant points in your body are treated with low intensity laser beams. The smoking cessation in you has begun. You feel relaxed, as far as smoking cravings are concerned. The thing that is most liked about this laser treatment is that the results are announced immediately after the examination. This is your first lesson in smoking cessation. Don't you take it as the final guarantee.
Nicotine is such a powerful agent, that you can not confront and defeat it by laser therapy alone. Your psychological aspects of addiction are more intense than the physiological aspects. Laser deals with the physical aspects. One excellent virtue about the laser therapy is that it has no side effects. This is a great assurance. In this modern medical treatment, you are sometimes more worried about the side effects than the original disease itself.
So, you accept the laser treatment therapy, in your efforts to stop smoking. But, before that, you need to know some relevant information.
The treatment is very costly. Be prepared for it. Sometimes, you don't get good results. So club this treatment, along with other types of treatments.
Finally, let your strong will power to quit smoking remain strong. That is the real laser beam!

Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms - Cope With Them and Quit For Good!

Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms - Cope With Them and Quit For Good!
by sacha tarkovsky

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms are one of the major challenges for anyone who wants to give up smoking. If you can cope with them your chances of quitting go up dramatically.
Let's look at the best ways of coping with nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
The most popular method to give up smoking
Is simply by giving up and not using any nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and is reffered to as "smoking cold turkey" however this causes a sharp shock to the system and nicotine withdrawal symptoms include:
Feeling stressed, anxious, nauseous and generally irritable.
This is the most popular method but is one that most people fail at and there is really no reason to do it.
People do it because they assume nicotine is the cause of death or disease, but this is not so.
Nicotine only provides the addictive nature of smoking and is not a killer (that is some of the other 4,000 odd chemicals consumed in smoking many of them poisons) so, you can take NRT and not suffer nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
NRT Products include:
Gum, patches, puffers and inhalers.
The one you like is very much down to personal choice, however all provide a measured dose of nicotine to help you cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
Other smoking alternatives include:
The drug Zyban and a new product - Nicotine water.
The latter is convenient (unlike chewing gum) and all people like and have to drink water ( unlike patches you don't need to put them on) you simply take sips of water whenever you feel the need.
All the above will help you get over nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cope with the craving.
A great way to stop smoking
Is to cut down first, reducing the amount you smoke each week by 10 or 20% and if you get a craving then you can use the above products.
By cutting down first, you are proving to yourself that you can do without cigarettes for periods of time.
This is a great confidence boost for people when they come to finally give up.
If you use NRT or other smoking alternatives, your chances of giving up for good are double compared with if you go cold turkey.
You don't put yourself through the trauma - Its safe to take nicotine outside of cigarettes.
Finally
Not only is it safe to take nicotine outside of cigarettes, it's actually good for you.
Recent medical research shows that it helps attention, memory and gives a felling of well being.
This will see a lot of new supplements hit the market to treat a number of conditions from depression to obesity.
We already have mentioned nicotine water earlier which is the first pure organic supplement and many more are expected to follow, not just to cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms but to provide health benefits.

New Year, Same Old Story? - 'I'll quit smoking tomorrow, now's a bad time for me'

New Year, Same Old Story? - 'I'll quit smoking tomorrow, now's a bad time for me'.
by antony greenwood

It seems that every new year brings with it what i like to call the same old 'silly season'. People kid themselves that they are going to lose weight/stop smoking/join a gym/____? etc etc. Feel free to fill in the missing words according to whatever little lie you've told yourself. Now you see, i'm all for good intentions & far be it for me to knock anyone's noble efforts to improve themselves but if we're really honest we can see that 'good intentions' for the most part is all they are. Well thats just fine & dandy if all you wanna do is lose your beer gut or flatten your ass but what if it's more than that?
Twenty some years ago i lit my first experimental cigarette, & boy did i think i was cool! 'How could any girl resist me now?' i would oft muse to myself, trying evermore convoluted combinations of blowing smoke rings & watching myself in the mirror. I was the main man! Of course my natural progression from occasional 'social' smoker to full blown addict (whose breathing could be likened to that of an asthmatic pit pony) was imperceptable & within what seemed like the blink of an eye i couldn't dream of 'enjoying' a meal without it being finished with obligatory ciggie & coffee.
My full & frank admission is that from that fateful moment all those years ago until a few months ago, i was hooked. Well, i BELIEVED i was hooked, but of course i was no such thing. I had just been brainwashed by popular thinking that giving up tobacco was misery & deprivation, & of course by fear. Fear of not having that little crutch that i believed i couldn't do without, & i tried countless times to stop by willpower only to start again after a few days or weeks of that self imposed imaginary misery.
Now i'm not going to tell you i had a revelation or a message from God, & neither am i professional writer (as is probably very evident), but i did make an amazing breakthrough in my quest to free myself of that slavery to those little tubes...

What does it take to stop smoking cigarettes?

What does it take to stop smoking cigarettes?
by Muna wa Wanjiru

Self-Hypnosis? A patch? A sympathetic friend? An admonishment from your doctor? A simple switch to pumpkin seeds?
If you are one of the millions who smoke cigarettes, it is no doubt that these questions have floated through your mind time and again. No matter what approach you take to try to stop smoking cigarettes, one thing I have learned is this: You cannot do it using will power alone. Will power may be a component of the solution, but it does not get to the heart of the matter.
In order to stop smoking, you have to cease beating yourself up about it.
Something fundamentally needs to shift in you. The craving needs to disappear. If you have tried being harsh on yourself and that tough approach has not worked, then you have to go easy on yourself. Try going to the opposite extreme and see what happens.
Will power is a feeling of over-effort, a determination to be in control. Will power goes hand in hand with being harsh on yourself. It is an honorable way to tackle things, but unfortunately, it is one that is uncomfortable and usually offers just a temporary solution.
You have to seek deeper. IN order to truly stop smoking cigarettes you have to look within and remove your negative attitudes first. In order to quit the smoking habit, you must first attain a very high degree of self-acceptance for the fact that you do smoke.
"But I already accept myself for smoking!" you may be screaming. Hmmm. Look carefully. Be honest. Be radically honest! If there is even a slight degree of uncomfortableness about not having quit smoking, then you are judging yourself in some way. Judgment locks the craving in place. It has a locking effect because the craving in you is a natural "rebel." If you judge the craving, then that makes the craving fight back even stronger. The "craver" in you rebels and makes you want the cigarettes more intensely On the other hand, if you let the craving be ok as it is, not being harsh on it, giving it room, not fighting against it, it MUST subside over time. Try it. You have nothing to lose. Smoke slowly. Let your self enjoy every inhale. Let yourself relax with ever exhale. Once you have mastered this practice of acceptance, THEN put your attention on quitting. I am certain you will notice a difference.
At the very least, you will not be as unhappy about learning to stop smoking cigarettes as you were before. Beating yourself up for smoking or for not being able to quit smoking is just as much of a killer as the smoking itself. Beating yourself up kills your mood.
So, take the Zen approach instead. Let yourself feel at peace with the smoking, and then take appropriate action to quit smoking (a patch, a pumpkin seed, or whatever). Make self-acceptance your truest goal, and your goal to stop smoking cigarettes will come much more easily.

Thinking of giving up smoking?

Thinking of giving up smoking?
by Danni Phillips

If you are considering giving up smoking, there has never been a better time. Not only are you giving yourself a chance of a healthier, longer life and saving money, you will also be able to enjoy being in a pub in a smoke-free environment as this summer, smoking will be banned from all pubs and private members' clubs in the UK, thanks to a vote in Parliament which was won by a huge margin.
There is no certain way to stop smoking, but about eight in every ten are successful with hypnotherapy. Willpower has a 3% success rate, and nicotine replacement therapy 6%, according to UK Government white paper statistics. Hypnotherapy is as powerful a help as you are likely to get, but success will not be certain.
This is how hypnotherapy for giving up smoking works. The therapist will endeavour to make you very physically relaxed simply by using his or her voice. They may get you to imagine a peaceful tranquil scene and then do some progressive relaxation techniques which means relaxing all the muscles in the body starting with the feet and ankles and working up from there. Two main suggestions are then given to you - that you don't smoke and you have no desire to smoke. The "subconscious mind" is able to accept these suggestions for permanent change, thereby breaking the smoking habit.
Look upon hypnotherapy as the most positive thing you can possibly do about breaking free from the smoking trap. Hypnotherapy is in many ways as much an art as it is a science, results therefore vary considerably between individuals and do not lend themselves to statistics any more that with most forms of therapy.
If you are still hesitating, then remember that about 125,000 men and women die each YEAR in the UK as a result of smoking related illness. If you have made up your mind you want to stop smoking for good then hypnotherapy could work for you.

I Need To Stop Smoking

I Need To Stop Smoking
by Mike Durand

What smoker has not at some point tried to flip a cigarette out of a closed car window? There you are, trying to fish it out of your lap without burning yourself or the seat, and even worse, trying to maintain control of the vehicle if you are the driver. The only consolation in this case is that maybe you are the only one in the car witnessing the crazy antics.
Combined with the times your cigarette has accidentally dropped off a balcony, singed your good clothes, or almost set your long hair ablaze, you may be starting to realize how lucky you are that these incidents have not yet resulted in much greater damage and cost to you or someone else. Is it time to quit smoking? You are not alone, each day thousands of people make the decision to quit, and succeed.
The decision to quit smoking can be successful, if you have will power, determination, and for many it helps if you have something to replace the cigarettes with. From alternate sources of nicotine, to the real or imagined reward of being able to kiss someone without tasting like smoke, there are many different methods that have helped people make this transition.
Whether you decide to stop smoking for the sake of your own health, or out of concern for your loved ones, there are many resources available to help you quit. Patches, gum, herbal cigarettes, toothpicks, straws or cinnamon sticks have all been found useful by some former smokers. Others recommend learning an instrument, meditation or hypnosis. Because smoking involves physiological, habitual and psychological factors, you can approach quitting from any of these directions, or ideally, some combination.
If you turn to snacking, remember to choose healthy snacks to avoid gaining weight and trading one unhealthy habit for another. Sunflower seeds, carrot sticks, licorice, pretzels or unbuttered popcorn are all relatively low-fat snacks to soothe your oral fixation. Other healthy replacements include drinking water, going for some exercise, or distracting yourself with some mental or physical activity. While many of the tricks used involve keeping your mouth busy, some find it equally important to occupy their hands with something, from a stress ball to playing cards, or knitting.
For additional help, do some browsing online, learn from others, join a support group, check out an anti-smoking agency, and evaluate your options. What works for some does nothing for others, but you are sure to find a method to quit smoking that works for you. Cold turkey or slow and gradual, do not give up. Better health for you and an improved quality of life for you and your loved ones is in sight.
